In summer, well-heeled Athenians flee the city and make the hour's journey to the coast – and the Athenian Riviera is their playground. A 50-kilometre stretch of pristine coastline and chic seafront towns, this corner of mainland Greece has the feel of an island. It's home to fabulous Mediterranean beaches (many crowned with Blue Flags) and charming seaside resorts filled with swish restaurants and a jet-setting crowd. At the Riviera's tip is Sounion, best known for the world-renowned Temple of Poseidon. The smattering of ports and harbours makes the area Greece's sailing hub, and the gateway to the islands – perfect for day trips and island-hopping.

Flight time from the UK to the Athenian Riviera is around 3 hours 40 minutes.
The best time to visit the Athenian Riviera is between April and October – which month you choose depends on how hot you like it. In July and August, daily highs are well into the 30s – perfect for beach days and breezy boat trips around the Saronic Gulf. May, June and September are still lovely and warm, with temperatures in the mid to high 20s, while April and October see the mercury drop another few degrees (ideal for sightseeing and walking).
Currently visas are not required for UK citizens travelling to Greece.
In Greece, a service charge will be included in the bill at restaurants and bars. Much like the UK, an additional tip is not required, although is appreciated for particularly good service. It is common to round off the amount when paying cash, particularly with wait staff and taxi drivers.
The official language of Greece is Greek. English is widely spoken, too, so getting by is easy.
