Kos Holidays - Greece
You'll find the island of Kos in the south-east of the Aegean Sea, a short hop from Turkey. It's one of the biggest Dodecanese islands, with a verdant interior and a coastline edged with sandy beaches. The sand is the main attraction here - beach lovers adore Agios Theologos and the beautiful white sands at Tigaki Beach.
The island lines up plenty of history, too, from the old Roman site of Asklepion to the 15th-century Castle of the Knights of St. John. As for daytrip options, the Turkish town of Bodrum is a short ferry ride away and features an Ottoman castle and a smart waterfront area filled with restaurants and cafés.
Things to do in Kos
Explore Kos Town
Kos Town's old quarter is perfect for an afternoon wander, with pretty Venetian and Ottoman architecture. There's also a medieval castle to explore, and ancient Roman ruins dotted throughout the town.
Visit ancient Asklepion
The site of Asklepion lies a few kilometres from Kos Town. Back in ancient Roman times, it was a hospital-come-spa, dealing in massage treatments, mud baths and herbal remedies. Now, you can see the old courtyards, baths and temples, as well as a Roman theatre that still hosts plays today.
Picnic with the peacocks in Plaka Forest
A trip to Plaka Forest is ideal if you fancy a morning or afternoon away from the beach. It's a shady pine forest where you'll find a host of resident peacocks ambling around. There's a picnic and barbecue area (bring your own charcoal) if you fancy having lunch, too.
