Calling all beach lovers! On these idyllic tropical islands, you can experience the bustling beaches of Mahe, the tranquil shores of Praslin, or the secluded coves on the far-flung coral islands. Watersports abound, and the shoals of brightly coloured fish that populate the coral reefs make it a diver's paradise. Food is a polyglot mix of spicy African chutneys and fiery Indian curries, with a dash of French, British and Chinese flavours.
Nightlife is relaxed, focused around the hotels or in the clusters of restaurants and beach bars. Forsake the beach for one day to shop for mother-of-pearl and shell jewellery, basketware and the quintessential souvenir ? the coco-de-mer nut.
A wide variety of watersports including scuba diving, deep sea fishing and snorkelling to see the diverse undersea life.
Eating out: The cuisine is exotic and eclectic; many varieties of curry with coconut, stir fries with fresh fish and rice, tuna steaks and octopus.
Special events: End of July Seychelles Jazz Festival.
Last week of October Seychelles Creole Festival. Shopping: Visit the colourful Victoria market on Mahé where you can purchase the famous coco-de-mer, local tea and spices.
