Luxury Fuerteventura Holidays
Fuerteventura's location, a hundred kilometres off the coast of Morocco, means that it gets plenty of sun all year round. It's also cooled down by trade winds, which make it a haven for watersports lovers - the island even hosts the Windsurfing and Kiteboarding World Cup.
Fuerteventura is most famous for its beaches. The coast is fringed with huge swathes of soft sand, particularly around Corralejo (home to sweeping sand dunes) and Jandia, where the sands roll out for 20 kilometres. Away from the coast, the island has a dramatic, volcanic landscape. It's best explored by car, but there are some great hiking and mountain biking trails, too.
Fuerteventura family holidaysThanks to Fuerteventura's year-round sun, there's no need to wait for the summer holidays to roll around. The beaches are nothing short of fabulous, with big, bold resorts like Corralejo providing enough beach games and entertainment to wear out activity-mad kids. Have a little adventurer on your hands? Make a beeline for Jandia, with its lush national park - it's brilliant for nature walks, cycling and even 4x4 drives through the park.
Things to do in Fuerteventura
Scale the sand dunes in Corralejo
Corralejo's beach and the huge sand dunes that back it have National Park status. They're definitely worth a visit - sands are soft and white, the beach comes with views across to Los Lobos and Lanzarote, and the Sahara-style dunes are perfect playgrounds for children.
Spend a day on Los Lobos
The uninhabited island of Los Lobos is a designated nature reserve, and is home to hundreds of seabirds who nest in its cliffs. The clear, shallow waters surrounded it are spot on for snorkelling, while a walk up its volcano showcases dozens of plant species.
Take a day trip to Lanzarote
Lanzarote is a short ferry ride from Fuerteventura. Spend a day exploring its moon-like lava formations and volcano craters, or take a tour of the quirky creations of artist, architect and former resident Cesar Manrique.
