Tenerife Holidays - Spain
With its sandy beaches, diverse scenery and year-round sunshine, Tenerife has been drawing in holidaymakers for decades. The south is where you'll find the bigger resorts and the best beaches, while the north showcases a lush landscape and a more traditional feel. Standing tall in the centre of the island is Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak. It's set in a UNESCO-listed national park, which is covered in moon-like lava formations.
The island has plenty to keep you busy, from whale watching trips and golf courses, to mountain hikes. It's also home to one of Europe's biggest water parks, Thai-inspired Siam Park.
Things to do in Tenerife
Scale Mount Teide
Mount Teide towers over Tenerife, and is surrounded by a wild, volcanic landscape. Take a cable car up to its highest point and you'll have views over the island and across the water to neighbouring Gran Canaria and La Gomera.
Explore Santa Cruz
Tenerife's capital, Santa Cruz, is well worth a visit. You'll find handsome historical buildings, pastel-painted houses, and stacks of shops and restaurants. If you're visiting in February or March, you might be lucky enough to catch the colourful Santa Cruz Carnival, one of the biggest in the world.
Brave the slides at Siam Park
Siam Park is one of the largest water parks in Europe, and racks up an impressive collection of slides and swimming pools. Adrenaline-lovers should check out The Dragon and Tower of Power, while little ones have The Lost City, a dedicated splash area with waterfalls and mini-chutes.
Hotels in Tenerife
The south-coast resort of Costa Adeje has an impressive selection of first-class hotels, from the Gran Hotel Bahia del Duque, with its lush gardens and inviting pools, to the Iberostar Grand Hotel El Mirador, which overlooks the Atlantic. If you're after easy access to the coastline, try the Iberostar Hotel Anthelia, set between Costa Adeje's two main beaches. The Arona Gran in Los Cristianos is a favourite with Sovereign customers, thanks to its fantastic facilities and central location. For full-blown luxury, take a look at the Ritz-Carlton, Abama in Guia de Isora - it lines up landscaped gardens, a sweeping golf course, and Michelin-starred restaurants.
