Mediterranean Coast Holidays - Turkey
Turkey's Mediterranean Coast curves along the country's southern edge, and is fringed with butterscotch-coloured sandy beaches. Luxe hotels back the beaches, and behind them you'll find eucalyptus forests, pine-cloaked mountains and olive groves. The greenery hides hundreds of bird species, while down on the sand you can find nesting grounds for rare leatherback turtles.
It's not all about natural beauty, though. Nearby, you'll find a handful of centuries-old ruins, including the ancient city of Perge and the huge Roman theatre at Aspendos. The region is home to some of Turkey's best golf courses, too.
Things to do on Turkey's Mediterranean Coast
Play a round of golf
This slice of Turkey is spot on for golfers, thanks to year-round sunshine and a generous helping of courses. In Belek alone, you'll find eight clubs that tot up ten 18-hole and two 27-hole courses between them.
Explore Aspendos' ancient theatre
The theatre at Aspendos is one of the best-preserved in the world. It was built back in Roman times, and still hosts shows today - audiences perch on stone steps and watch ballet and opera performances.
Tour the ruins of Perge
The ancient city of Perge is still in remarkably good condition. Stroll through its streets and you'll come across gate towers, Roman baths, temples and a Byzantine basilica. There's also a 12,000-seater stadium and a Greco-Roman theatre that once held more than 14,000 spectators.
Spend a day in Kaleici
A visit to Antalya's old town is a bit like stepping back in time. Traditional stone houses edge the narrow streets, their ornate wooden balconies overflowing with flowers. Shop owners display woven rugs, tea sets and metal lanterns on street-side benches, and restaurants are tucked away in candlelit courtyards.
