The Villas - Hotel Bahia del Duque

This is not a five star hotel. We have stayed in many five star hotels around the world and this is 3 star at most. On arrival we waited 4 hours for our room to be ready. If the hotel know that people are going to arrive on early flights, why don't they give them priority? When we got our rooms they were tired and a very long way from the reception. The hotel is built on several levels up from the beach and really you need to be a mountain goat to get up and down. Dangerous to walk around with many possible trip area's. The breakfast buffet was OK but nothing special. Everything is over priced and poor quality. One of the most over rated places we have ever stayed in and we will certainly never be back.

I had a very relaxing weeks holiday with my mum. My mum has mobility difficulties but this was not a problem due to the availability of transport buggy’s around the complex. We ate most evenings at the hotel in the different restaurants, but because it feels like a little village it did not get boring. The hotel is very clean and the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly without being intrusive.

Stayed here from 5-12th April. Would not return, what a disappointment. The hotel says its starting a renovation phase, it desperately needs it, the rooms are tired, walkways are dirty, tiles are broken. Food was a total disappointment in both quality and service. Breakfast buffet is ok, standard huge room offering everything and quality was fine for breakfast. Alisios Market - Literally incapable of cooking a steak, had to send it back twice, by the time they brought it a 3rd time everything else was cold. Was told by the waitress that the Chef thought it was perfectly cooked. If i am the paying customer, it is my choice on how its cooked, not the Chef's. Table two down from us sent back the Chicken because it was pink. By pink, it was so rare it still had feathers on. La Trattoria was the only decent meal we had. Food well cooked and presented, staff were good. Sua - This turned into a total farce. Main course arrived with no fries or vegetables. Requested to the waiter, who turned up 1 min later with the vegetables. Still no fries. Request again. Waitress comes over, request missing fries. she never reappears. Then the manager appears, doing his walk of the restaurant, all jolly and happy. Mention missing fries, to which he returns 5-6mins later with them, by which point everyone was finished. Original waiter just shrugged his shoulders when the manager pulled him over. Dessert, 2 out of the 4 arrived. Waited 10mins before other two arrived. Waiter thought it was acceptable to serve this 10 mins apart. I expect all food to be delivered at the same time. La Brasserie - food is just bland. If you eat by in the terrace by the villas, dont order the stir fry. Meant to be beef. It was utterly vile, actually smelled off. Daytime food around the pool was a joke unless you want to live off chips. Literally couldnt prepare a salad without it tasting bland. Oh and they stop serving food at 4pm so if youve been out for the day and want a quick snack on your return to the pool, you are out of luck. Service around the pool is poor. One waiter covering the whole top section of pool area for drinks/snacks. Poor bloke tried his best but he was run off his feet and could take 30-40 mins to get a drink. Swimming Pools. they have three main ones and a small kiddy one. One at the top is "heated". It was cold, but packed because the other two are unheated, and as you can imagine in April, like an ice bath. Only the brave ventured into those, and not for long. Totally pointless having the largest, quite nice pool totally unheated and therefore no one using it. Reception Staff are just useless, highlighted by day of check out. Called at 850am from the room to reception to say at 920am could someone come collect the cases. She immediately called back asking how many cases ( 4). All confirmed, see you at 9.20..... 9.30am still waiting, but these things happen, i call reception, to which the reply was "oh i thought you would call back at 9.20". Why would i call at 8.50 to book at 9.20 for you to suggest i then call back at 9.20. Anyway, can you send someone now please. Of course Sir. 9.40am, still waiting, so I walk upto reception and gently ask. She said see front desk, to which three bell boys are standing around having a chat. By this time our taxi is waiting. As i approach the three, without any prompting he says room 402? Oh yeah, forgot, we'll go now. They have a room ( club room i think its called), next to Reception where you have to go to make all of your bookings for restaurants etc. One thing to note, they will not call the spa for you. you either have to return to your room to dial it, or call from your mobile. Was beyond surprised at this by hey ho. Hotel right next to the beach, standard spanish public beach and you'll struggle to get beds/umbrella beyond 10am but thats outside of the hotel control. 25 odd euros for 4 beds. You can walk into either of the towns about 15mins each way. Few restaurants, shops, bars. Shopping mall 2 mins from hotel with good supermarket. Overall, would not return. How this is classed as 5star is beyond me, 2star at best anywhere else in Europe. Nowhere had enough staff, whether a restaurant, pool, bars. Food is poor, and in some places grim. Pools are cold. Staff just shrug their shoulders and dont really care. This place needs a serious makeover in both condition and staffing to become decent again. Much better options in Tenerife.
