Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik

As soon as we entered the beautiful lobby with it's floor to ceiling windows which showcases the beautiful coastline, we knew we were in for a special treat. Commencing with the warm welcome from Vesna who is a wealth of information, and so friendly that she feels like she's an old friend. She patiently showed us some rooms to choose from. This was a difficult choice as all the rooms are beautiful. We ended up in a deluxe room with floor to ceiling windows with a balcony overlooking the sea and the old town. The warm welcome continued with the porter Ante, who always greeted us with a warm smile and friendly hello and the other porter was helpful too. Marko at the front desk helped us figure out different sights to see and gave us some restaurant recommendations. Ivo, the front office manager was amazing. He always greeted with a friendly hello, and answered any questions we had with such grace and sincerity. The staff at the hotel are wonderful. The breakfasts are delicious with a big variety of foods including hot foods made to order,fresh fruits, yoghurts, cereals etc to suit most needs. A wonderful way to start the day. However, I do wish there was an option of a room service breakfast with an a la carte menu, as we often wanted to eat breakfast on our balcony listening to the waves. The spa is lovely with a variety of treatments. I opted for a facial and back massage with Maria, who was outstanding. She got rid of my back pain, Nikolina gave me a wonderful leg and foot massage. Nikolina also shampooed my hair and styled it. My hair looked fantastic. It's so difficult to find hotels with salons, and this for me was a big selling point about the hotel. Thanks to both for the wonderful spa experience. At the Abacus bar which has a good small plates menu and excellent drinks was run by Zelijko. He was very friendly and a good bartender. When he found that my husband and I had been married for 39 years, he and this other wonderful gentleman who must be the manager or something opened a complimentary bottle of champagne for us and toasted us. It really warmed our hearts to see the generosity and kindness shown to us. Thank you both. The bar itself is gorgeous with amazing views of the sea with it's wall of big windows. There is a beautiful patio outside the bar. The food at the bar was excellent. The spa area also a beautiful indoor swimming pool. There is also a restaurant on the premises, which unfortunately, we didn't have time to visit as we often walked into the old town in the evenings. The restaurant is beautiful though with lovely sea views. The location is outstanding with gorgeous sea views and with the twinkling lights of the old town at night is very romantic. It is only a few minutes from the old town, so it is very convenient. This is definitely a five star hotel with five star service. Highly recommend. I know we will be back.

We are just writing this review as we prepare to go home tomorrow, and it felt like the right time to take a moment and share our appreciation for Ivor Vlasic, and all of his incredible staff. We traveled here for our second wedding anniversary. We wanted to do something a little bit special after spending the first years of our marriage building our house.. (Top tip) Don’t spend the first two years of your marriage building a house.. it is a BAD idea :) To say that the Excelsior Hotel was a bit special, is the understatement of the year. The hotel is immaculately clean, the food and the views are to die for and every single member of staff was a credit to Ivor and his team. Service was outstanding, efficient and impeccable. The best staff always look after you subtly, just being in the background, keeping a watchful eye and ready to be there if needed. The Excelsior clearly prides itself on such skills. Nothing was ever a problem, nothing was too much effort and all the staff who worked here seemed to love the place almost as much as we did. Ivor, thank you to you and your team for our fabulous stay at the Excelsior. Absolutely outstanding and we highly highly recommend to anyone wishing to be treated like royalty.
