Luxury Rail Travel
It’s a one-of-a-kind experience on the grand dame of luxury rail travel. Your journey aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express begins in London, where you’ll board the beautiful carriages of its sister train, the Belmond British Pullman, for the first leg of the journey. In Folkestone, a luxury coach will be waiting to whisk you across the channel (with plenty of champagne), and in Calais, the gleaming 1920s carriages of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express will be waiting…

There are a fair few routes you can take on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, but one of the most popular starts in London and ends in romantic Venice. For details of other routes, please call us.
London – Venice
This classic route begins in a luxury lounge at London Victoria. The Belmond British Pullman will be waiting to transport you through the rolling Kent countryside to Folkestone (with a Bellini brunch to get you in the mood). In Folkestone, you’ll hop onto a spacious luxury coach for a glass of bubbly as you cross the channel.
In Calais, you board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, and set off for Italy. Once settled in your authentic 1920s cabin, dress in your finest (take it from us – you can never be overdressed) and tuck into a four-course meal in one of three beautiful restaurant cars.
The next morning, set your alarm to catch sight of the Swiss Alps as you speed past in style. Linger over a Continental breakfast served in your cabin, and spend the morning soaking up the views or relaxing in the bar car. Look out for the Italian Dolomite Mountains as you settle down for lunch in the restaurant cars.
The dining experience aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is its biggest appeal. Continental breakfast and elegant afternoon tea is served in the privacy of your cabin, with lunch and dinner taking place in one of three individually styled restaurant cars, named Cote d’Azur, Etoile du Nord and L’Oriental.
The on-board team of chefs prepare masterpieces from their tiny kitchens, with a mix of new, seasonal specialties and unchanged classics (the lobster brunch, for example, is so popular it’s been the same since 1982). Keep an eye out the window in Paris – you might spot the lobsters being loaded on board.
In the heart of the train is the bar car, the go-to for cocktails or coffee, with a pianist to set the mood in the evenings. Prefer bubbly for the occasion? There’s a special champagne bar, too.
The 17 carriages of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express are furnished in full 1920s-style glamour. The beautifully finished cabins come in a choice of single or double, with cabin suites (two interconnecting double cabins) available on request.
By day, your cabin features a sofa, footstall and small table. While you’re at dinner in the restaurant car, your cabin steward will convert your cabin into a cosy bedroom. Double cabins feature washing areas complete with fluffy towels, linens and luxury toiletries. Mosaic-tiled lavatories are located at the end of each carriage, and your cabin steward is on-hand 24/7.

How much luggage can I take on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express?
Space is limited on board the train, so passengers can take one piece of hand luggage and one suit carrier to be kept in your cabin (we recommend packing three outfits in a suit carrier to hang on the hook in your cabin, and bringing a cabin-sized bag to stow in your luggage rack).
You are also permitted to bring one suitcase, which will be checked in the baggage car. Your suitcase will be waiting for you when you arrive at the hotel in your destination; you won’t have access to it during the journey.

Take it from us – you can never be overdressed. During the day, smart-casual wear is suitable (jeans, shorts, t-shirts and trainers are not allowed). In the evenings, gentlemen are required to wear a jacket. Most passengers dress in their finest – including some vintage, 1920s-inspired outfits.
Will I need a passport or visa?
Yes. You will need your passport, and a visa if necessary.
