SOVEREIGN WEDDINGS ABROAD

Picture saying ‘I do’ with your toes in the sand, the ocean as your soundtrack and friends and family gathered under shady palm trees. Sound like your idea of a wedding? More people than ever are taking their special days overseas, and since we’re the experts at matching people with their paradise, we’d be delighted to help plan the biggest day of your life.

When you book your wedding with us, it includes the holiday (which means a ready-made honeymoon) and the wedding, with our own UK-based wedding team to help you every step of the way. Our package covers most of the essentials, and once we have booked the wedding date for you, we can put you in touch with the resort to discuss special extras and finishing touches to personalise your wedding.

Below, we’ve handpicked the world’s most romantic destinations (think the beaches of Barbados or the great lakes of Italy) as well as the perfect hotels to make you and your guests feel at home. We have special offers for honeymooners, and at certain hotels in the Caribbean and Mexico, we can even offer your wedding package free^ when you book your Sovereign holiday.

If you have any questions or you’d like to talk about our wedding packages, simply give our Travel Experts a call on 01293 762400*.

Sovereign Wedding Destinations

Steel Band, Antigua

Antigua

With a beach for every day of the year, you’ll be spoilt for choice saying your vows in Antigua. It’s a better-than-the-postcard setting for wedding photos, too. Take a look at our choice of wedding hotels in Antigua below.

Barbados beachfront

Barbados

With glorious sunshine nearly every day of the year (340 days of it, we’re told) Barbados’ beach charm and HD colours make it one of the hottest wedding destinations in the Caribbean. Here’s where to say ‘I do’.

Cayo Levantado

Dominican Republic

It’s not only Columbus who considered the Dominican Republic the fairest land under heaven. We think it’s pretty special, too. Caribbean beauty and a Latin American charm make this a paradise island ready for romance.

St Lucia

ST Lucia

Secluded, palm-fringed beaches, wild rainforest and green-and-gold bays make St Lucia the kind of wedding destination we all dream about. Take a look at our favourite hotels in St Lucia for tying the knot, tropical-style.

Chichen Itza

Mexico

Mexico is home to fabulous white-sand coasts and world-class beachfront resorts, not to mention wildly beautiful scenery and ancient archaeological treasures. We think it’s one of the most unique places to get married on earth.

Mauritius

Mauritius

There’s no doubt about it; Mauritius’ unique brand of dreamy beaches, cloudless weather and colonial beauty makes it one of the most romantic destinations on earth, with a fair few fabulous luxury resorts to match.

Cypriot landscape

Cyprus

If you’d prefer a destination a little closer to home, Cyprus has earned its romantic stripes (Anthony gifted the island to Cleopatra as a token of his love) and counts 300 days of sunshine and some of the prettiest scenery in the Med among its triumphs.

Kefalonia, Greece

Greece

Greece’s dramatic coastline, picturesque islands and historic towns provide a tantalising choice of wedding backdrops, from Halkidiki’s olive grove-thick coast to Crete’s lunar-like landscapes and picture-perfect seaside towns.

Thailand

Thailand

Thailand is a Southeast Asian country dipped in gold, with some of the region’s very finest beaches backing a rippling landscape of jungle. If you dream of saying your vows on the sand, this one’s hard to beat.

Thailand

Bali

The land of Eat, Pray, Love, Bali’s exotic wedding credentials come in the form of powder-fine beaches and awe-inspiring volcanic scenery, with hundreds of tiny temples half-hidden in the landscapes.

Lake Garda, Italy

Italy

It’s no secret that Italy loves romance; its breath-stealing destinations and weddings are a match made in heaven. From the quaint coastal charms of Sorrento and Amalfi to Lake Garda’s palatial waterfront retreats, this is a country fit to bursting with wedding backdrops. We can organise weddings in Lake Garda, Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, Sorrento or the island of Capri.

If you’re thinking about arranging your wedding day with Sovereign, we’ve answered some of your most-asked questions to help you plan your big day. If you have any more questions or you’d simply like to chat to our experts, give us a call on 01293 762400*.

The Basics

Q. What is included in our wedding?

A. When you book your wedding with us, the price includes the holiday and wedding package, which will be confirmed when you book. The wedding package covers most essentials and inclusions that you would expect for a traditional UK wedding, but you can also arrange personalised extras and finishing touches with your wedding coordinator once you arrive at your destination. A local wedding coordinator will be on hand throughout to ensure everything runs smoothly. Wedding extras and finishing touches will be at an additional charge and are paid for locally. You may also be required to pay legal fees once in resort but this will vary by destination, however your Wedding Pack will state if these are required.

Q. How far in advance do we need to book our wedding?

A. We recommend you book at least 12 weeks before your departure to allow sufficient time for your arrangements. However, there is some flexibility with this and your Travel Expert will be able to advise you. Late processing fees will apply for all wedding bookings made 10 weeks or less to departure.

Q. What happens once we've booked?

A. Once you have booked your holiday, we would usually expect to have your wedding confirmation within 3-5 working days. You will then receive a Wedding Pack within 2 weeks of the confirmation of your wedding date. This will contain confirmation of the inclusions of the wedding package you have purchased together with a full explanation of the documentation process and the required timescales involved. Your Wedding Pack will also provide information regarding the booking of wedding extras and how you can go about arranging a wedding reception after your ceremony. Contact details for the Sovereign Weddings Department in the UK will also be provided in the Wedding Pack, and the team will be on hand at any time to offer assistance or advise where required.

Q. How long should our holiday be?

A. You may need to satisfy minimum residency requirements before you get married abroad and these vary by destination.

Q. What langauge will the ceremony be in?

A. This depends on the country. If the service is not conducted in English, a translator will be provided.

Q. What will happen when we arrive?

A. You will receive a letter, either at the airport or at your chosen accommodation. This will detail the arrangements for your meeting with your wedding coordinator.

Q. Can we invite guests to our wedding?

A. You can invite guests to join on your special day. You’ll just need to let us know how many guests will be coming, and be aware that additional charges may apply if your guests are not all staying at your hotel. You may need permission for children to attend at an adults-only hotel.

Q. Can we renew our vows?

A. Yes. We can provide a similar ceremony for renewing your vows everywhere we offer weddings, and you can renew your vows however long you've been married.

The Legal bits

Q. Is the wedding legal?

A. All our overseas weddings are legally recognized in the UK. Although you are unable to register the marriage in the UK, it may be possible to have it recorded as an ‘overseas marriage’.

Q. What legal documentation do we need to take with us?

A. Documentation and other legal requirements vary by destination, details can be provided by the Sovereign weddings team. For all weddings, your wedding coordinator will require photocopies of all relevant legal documentation at least eight weeks prior to your departure. All original documents must be taken with you when you go to your chosen destination. Legal documentation requirements can change and obtaining these documents may incur costs. Check all documentation carefully as mistakes such as incorrect spelling of names could lead to the cancellation of your wedding, for which Sovereign cannot be held responsible.

Q. Which name should the bride travel under?

A. The bride must travel under her maiden name on the outbound and return flight. The name on your ticket must match the name on your passport.

Q. When do we receive our marriage certificate?

A. In most destinations you will receive your marriage certificate before your flight home. In some cases, your marriage certificate may not be ready in time and will be sent to you, via your hotel for long haul destinations or your wedding coordinator in resort for short haul destinations.

The Ceremony

Q. When can I choose the colours of the flowers, design of the cake and other additional services?

A. This will be arranged in your destination, with your wedding coordinator. Please remember the types of flowers available can differ from those in the UK and will vary through the seasons. If a wedding cake is included, you can discuss any special requirements with the wedding coordinator when you arrive. Supplements may apply.

Q. How do I book finishing touches and extras?

A. Enclosed in your Wedding Pack will be an explanation of how you can arrange finishing touches for your wedding and/or the reception afterwards.

Q. What will the quality of the video and photographs be like?

A. In most cases, professional freelance photographers will take your wedding photographs and video. While all products are developed to the highest standards possible, as both equipment and development facilities can be limited in some countries, the products are not always comparable to those in the UK.

Q. How do we transport our wedding outfits?

A. All airlines recommend dresses are boxed or placed in a separate suitcase, as they will need to go into the luggage hold of the aircraft. The package should be labelled ‘fragile’ and the check in staff should be advised of what is in the suitcase. It is not recommended you try to take the wedding attire on board, as most airlines will not allow this. However, all companies have different guidelines, so you may wish to contact the airline you are travelling with directly.

Q. How will we organise for our wedding outfits to be pressed?

A. This can usually be arranged through your chosen hotel. However, if the hotel does not offer this service, your wedding coordinator will be happy to make alternative arrangements for you.

Q. Is there a hairdresser or beautician at our property?

A. If your accommodation does not have a hairdresser or beautician on site, your wedding coordinator will be happy to arrange an appointment at a local salon. Sometimes they can even organise for someone to come to your accommodation.

Q. How long will the ceremony be?

A. The length of the ceremony can vary. It usually lasts between 10 and 20 minutes, followed by the signing of the register, a toast to the bride and groom and photographs.
