Without further ado, introducing the latest destination in our Sovereign Spotlight series for April…SEYCHELLES!

The Seychelles take you to a tropical paradise in the Indian Ocean with clear blue seas and fine white sands. We’ve picked out a few of our favourite things about the Seychelles for you to enjoy below.

Nature Reserves

The Seychelles are home to a number of nature reserves where you can admire the unique fauna and flora. These protected areas allow visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the islands first hand. Be sure to visit Morne Seychellois National Park on the island of Mahé. This is the largest park in the Seychelles covering more than 20% of the land on the island. You’ll find several hiking trails as well as a wide variety of wildlife. Soak up the stunning views of the forests, mountains, and coastline as you wander.

Victoria

The capital city of the Seychelles, Victoria can be found on the island of Mahé. It’s vibrant and bustling and showcases a beautiful blend of culture and history. Be sure to visit the Clock Tower, built in 1903, one of the most recognisable landmarks in the city. Another sight worth visiting is the Sir Selwyn Clarke Market which is a great place to soak up the culture and pick up some local souvenirs. You’ll find everything from handcrafted items to fresh produce and spices.

Boat Tour

Take a boat trip around the islands to explore the stunning scenery and marine life. A boat tour is the best way to see the Seychelles with its crystal-clear waters. With a boat tour you can discover hidden coves and beaches – there are over 115 islands so you’re sure to find a hidden gem to enjoy without the crowds. There’s also lots of diving and snorkelling opportunities. The Seychelles are home to a diverse range of marine animals from colourful fish to whale sharks.

Sample the Cuisine

The cuisine in the Seychelles is a fusion of African, Indian and European influences reflective of its rich history. Dishes are full of flavour with fresh seafood, spices and tropical fruits gracing most recipes. Be sure to try the fish curry, one of the most popular dishes. It’s made with fresh fish, spices and coconut milk and is typically served with rice and a side of vegetables. Wash your meal down with Takamaka rum made from the sugarcane grown on the islands. It’s often served mixed with coconut water or as a rum punch.

Spot sea turtles

Home to several species of sea turtles, the Seychelles is one of the best places to visit. Magnificent creatures like the hawksbill turtle and the green turtle play an important role in the ecosystem of the island by maintaining the coral reefs and beds that encircle the islands. Boat trips and snorkelling adventures are often focussed around trying to spot the turtles and visitors can learn about the conservation efforts to protect these amazing animals.
