It’s a one-of-a-kind experience on the grande dame of luxury rail travel. Your journey aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express begins in London, where you’ll board the beautiful carriages of its sister train, the Belmond British Pullman, for the first leg of the journey. In Folkestone, a luxury coach will be waiting to whisk you across the channel (with plenty of champagne), and in Calais, the gleaming 1920s carriages of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express will be waiting…
This classic route begins in a luxury lounge at London Victoria. The Belmond British Pullman will be waiting to transport you through the rolling Kent countryside to Folkestone (with a Bellini brunch to get you in the mood). In Folkestone, you’ll hop onto a spacious luxury coach for a glass of bubbly as you cross the channel. In Calais, you board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, and set off for Italy. Once settled in your cabin, dress in your finest (take it from us – you can never be overdressed) and tuck into a four-course meal in one of three beautiful restaurant cars.
The next morning, set your alarm to catch sight of the Swiss Alps as you speed past in style. Linger over a Continental breakfast served in your cabin, and spend the morning soaking up the views or relaxing in the bar car. Look out for the Italian Dolomite Mountains as you settle down for lunch in the restaurant cars, before you arrive in Venice in the afternoon.
There are a fair few routes you can take on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, but the most popular is the London to Venice (or vice versa). For details of other routes or to book, please call our Trusted Advisers on 01293 762400.
The dining experience aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is its biggest appeal. Continental breakfast and elegant afternoon tea is served in the privacy of your cabin, with lunch and dinner taking place in one of three individually styled restaurant cars, named Côte d’Azur, Etoile du Nord and L’Oriental.
The on-board team of chefs prepare masterpieces from their tiny kitchens, with a mix of new, seasonal specialities and unchanged classics (the lobster brunch, for example, is so popular it’s been the same since 1982). Keep an eye out the window in Paris – you might spot the lobsters being loaded on board.
In the heart of the train is the bar car, the go-to for cocktails or coffee, with a pianist to set the mood in the evenings. Prefer bubbly for the occasion? There’s a special champagne bar, too.
You’ll travel to Italy on the renowned Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, stay a couple of nights in Venice, then step aboard a luxurious cruise ship that’ll take you to some of the prettiest ports in the Med.
