This Italian escape packs in plenty of la dolce vita. You can tour ancient sights and sip cappuccinos in Rome, before retreating to the Amalfi Coast for postcard-pretty towns and spectacular scenery.
Arriving into Rome, you’ll have a private transfer to take you directly to your chosen hotel.
Seek out a backstreet trattoria for dinner. For a classically Roman dish, go for spaghetti alla carbonara – it’s made the traditional way, using just eggs, crispy pancetta and plenty of grated Parmesan.
With two full days, you can pack in plenty of Roma’s big-name sights.
The Colosseum and Roman Forum offer up a fascinating insight into Ancient Roman life, while Vatican City showcases a collection of art-packed museums and one of the most spectacular basilicas in the world, Basilica di San Pietro.
If shopping is on your agenda, point yourself in the direction of boutique-lined Via dei Condotti.
It pitches up at the Spanish Steps, where you can rest your feet (and credit card) with a pot of tea and a slice of cake at 120-year-old Babington’s Tea Room.
The city’s quieter corners are also worth discovering.
Stroll through peaceful parks like the Villa Borghese or Parco Savello, peep inside hushed neighbourhood churches (which often display priceless works of art), and stroll past ivy-covered townhouses in artsy Trastevere.
It’s your final morning in Rome – do as Audrey did in Roman Holiday and enjoy a coffee at one of the cafes edging Piazza della Rotonda.
Once finished, you’re in prime position to tick off your final Eternal City landmark: the Pantheon.
From Rome, you’ll take a high-speed train to the city of Naples.
From here, we’ll arrange a private transfer to whisk you around the Bay of Naples to your chosen hotel on the Amalfi Coast.
Toast your arrival with a glass of sweet limoncello, made from the coast’s supersized lemons.
The Amalfi Coast is Italian glamour at its finest. Towns and villages are painted in photogenic pastel colours, piazzas are lined with elegant cafes (perfect for people-watching), and the waters are flecked with yachts and ‘50s-style wooden motorboats.
Spend a day or two hopping between towns like Positano, Maiori and Amalfi. Travel along the coast by road one way and by sea the other for Instagram-worthy views from every angle. Don’t miss the lofty village of Ravello, hidden up on the clifftops – its opulent villas boast the best vistas on the coast.
Other day-trip options could include the islands of Capri and Ischia, the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and the pizzerias, baroque churches and underground Roman streets of Naples.
It’s arrivederci to the Amalfi Coast today, as your private transfer takes you to Naples Airport for your flight home. Enjoy one final cup of Italian coffee before you head off (and perhaps a cornetti or two - Italy's answer to the croissant).
