Fly direct from London to Cape Town.
Land in Cape Town International Airport where a private transfer will be waiting to take you to Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, which is set amidst the native ancient Fynbos trees, overlooking the Gansbaai area.
Gansbaai is well known for its natural beauty, sports and activities, with stunning landscapes to explore in lots of ways. Spend your days enjoying the facilities at the supremely comfortable Garden Lodge on the Grootbos Reserve, an eco-reserve tucked between mountains, forest and ocean where you can make the most of the many areas to relax within the lodge.
Included in your stay are a host of activities, including mountain biking, hiking, horse riding and excursions along the coastal roads. From June to December there are excellent chances to watch whales from the land and visit the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary; perfect for younger children. The expert staff will teach them about the diseased, injured or distressed animals who are going through a rehabilitation process before being released back into the wild.
You will be transferred to Cape Town Airport for your flight to Johannesburg, where you will be met and transferred by private vehicle to your accommodation in the Madikwe Game Reserve. Madikwe, with its rugged terrain, bold colours and rich variety of species, makes for fantastic photographic opportunities.
There is plenty for your family to enjoy during your stay at the Madikwe Safari Lodge. You can join safaris in open 4x4 vehicles, twice daily in the early morning and late afternoon when the wildlife is more active. Go in search of leopards and chameleon, rhino and dung beetles, giraffe and elephant shrew - no two safari drives are ever the same. For the lucky the endangered wild dog will be a highlight of any drive.
Children’s activities are also run throughout the day; offering younger guests the chance to explore the Eco House, which is built especially for children and offers arts and crafts, drawing and games centred around learning about the wildlife on the reserve. You can remain with your children at the Eco House or enjoy a break while qualified staff keep them entertained. Children can also learn about animal tracking, get up close to the safe insects of the reserve, make their own pizzas, try star gazing and much more.
