The best thing about this hotel was the bedroom. Yes, a touch of the ???international business hotel??? but it was spacious (with a nice sitting area in front of the large bay windows), well-air-conditioned, ample storage, extremely comfortable beds and everything worked! In a way, a welcome change from some of the more ???quaint??? rooms on our itinerary. And the house-keeping staff were very on the ball.
I wish the same could be said of the restaurant. The waiters were a little slovenly, charmless and had very limited English. The breakfast buffet was the dullest on our seven week tour. And when we tried to discuss the idea of a dinner ???tasting menu??? with the head chef (having been assured by his predecessor that he would be up for it) it rapidly became clear that he didn???t have a clue what we were talking about, so we ate elsewhere. The dining room is a bit weird, having no windows looking outside, only onto the lobby, so that even an 8 o???clock breakfast felt like the middle of the night.
The pool is on the rooftop of this, the tallest building in Fort Kochi, so the views are impressive and the pool is a good size. The surrounding area feels rather scruffy, however, especially in a hotel that has been open for only 3-4 years. It???s not helped by the strange decision to feature some heavily ???distressed??? painted furniture, which sadly doesn???t look ???shabby-chic???, merely shabby. (They have made the same mistake with the hotel???s main entrance doors, which creates a very poor first impression until you walk into the rather spectacular lobby.)
A final enthusiastic mention for the front desk, especially Fatima, who well outclassed any of her rivals on our tour.
Another slight negative was the location: not an impossible walk into the heart of Fort Kochi, but the road is too busy with too few pavements to make it enjoyable, so (after one attempt) we took tuk-tuks every time. And that wasn???t always easy as they were not very plentiful at this end of town.

I had the pleasure of staying at this gorgeous boutique hotel. The decor, the sea-side breeze and view of the Kochi refinery, are simply amazing! It is in Mattancherry and close to all the 'touristy' sites. Its a 10-min drive from Fort Kochi. The area, however, per se is very congested and God forbid the vehcle gets stuck tehre it can be a nightmare! It is also a little removed from the city. So if its your 2nd or 3rd visit to Kochi and you want to explore something new, this is hands-down highly recommended.
