Grand Hotel Cocumella

Neopolitan Riviera, Sorrento

Behind shady gardens on the edge of the Sorrentine Peninsula is the Grand Hotel Cocumella, one of the original five-star hotels on the Neapolitan Riviera. An icon of Italian style, the hotel counts Sigmund Freud and Mary Shelley among its past patrons, with generations of guests drawn to its sweet-scented lemon groves and peaceful greenery. There are plenty of cool, private spaces for making the most of the region's beautiful weather, and you're a short walk from a private beach and a lovely pool area fringed with luxe loungers. The dining at Grand Hotel Cocumella is superb; choose from Mediterranean-Japanese fusion at Coku or sea views and candlelit fine dining at Scintilla.

Hotel child prices apply to ages 3-7 years.

The hotel has 48 rooms.

About the Location
From its prime clifftop position, Sorrento has wide-angle views across the Bay of Naples to brooding Mount Vesuvius. Palms and citrus groves cluster around grand villas and elegant hotels, and along the spaghetti-thin lanes of the old town you’ll find tiny trattorias, cafes and a generous helping of souvenir shops (bottles of zesty limoncello, brightly painted ceramics and bespoke sandals are all must-buys).
The main square, Piazza Tasso, is the place to head for a morning espresso, while the waterfront Marina Grande is the ideal spot for a dinner of freshly netted seafood, tossed with olive oil and home-made pasta.
Sorrento’s location also makes it the perfect springboard for exploring more of the Neapolitan Riviera. Amalfi Coast towns like Positano and Ravello are in easy reach, as are the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Hop on a boat, meanwhile, and you can skim over to the islands of Capri and Ischia.
