About the Location
Pievescola lies west of Siena, where the rolling countryside transforms into vineyards and the roads turn rural and winding. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it kind of place – a charming hamlet with a handful of low-key restaurants.
Take the road that rolls east out of town, and you’ll come across a medieval villa tucked between the town and forested hills. This is a Relais & Châteaux property, and our handpicked hotel here. The in-house restaurant is the star attraction, plating up Italian specialities and Tuscan wines in an old olive mill. If you get a chance, take the time to explore the grounds – they’re decorated with herb gardens and lemon groves.
Siena is a scenic 40-minute drive away from Pievescola. Plan a day trip here, and you’ll wind up in a medieval masterpiece of a city that spills out from a distinctive fan-shaped square.
1 hour 45 minutes from Pisa airport.

Go online and book a beautiful room - when arriving, they escort you into a shed/stable and expect you to accept the dark miserable room. There is no other hotel within a 30 min drive so you are stuck - you have to pay an extra 100 Euros to have a decent room.
Never make this mistake again - what a hoax.

Ok where do I begin with our recent stay at La Severa. As other reviewers have noted,it is in the middle of nowhere but one is quickly reassured upon arrival as the exterior is stunning and if anyone has seen the beautiful rooms featured in the website what could possibly go wrong. Our room was an ???Upgrade??? and it was in the stable or farmhouse and we were made to believe this room was special. It seemed that nothing had been refreshed or updated since the the place was built in the 1600s. Ok the room???could this be the room I saw in the website? Not quite. The room was excessively ???adorned??? with veils, sheets, curtains, mosquito nets etc- on the bed, the windows, the shower???an allergen paradise. There was ???art??? screwed to the walls and ceiling with dry wall screws! The bathtub had faux marble painted on the sides. I felt like I was at a really bad renaissance fair and I paid way to much for the tickets.
Being as unhappy as we were, we asked to switch rooms and the manager did agree to move us???put us in the main building. Again much of the same ???a dated room with lots of really old stuff and a bathroom that may have been updated in the 1800s. The shower head did not work nor it it drain properly???oh and the Wi-Fi did not work and still I wondered who took those pictures of the rooms for the website .
So we are super disappointed and we stay the night to spend couple of hundred euros in the restaurant for the blandest meal in Tuscany. How could this get worse???
The next morning we did ask to cut our stay short and head to another hotel; to another that looks old but has ???modern??? facilities. For the price one pays for these rooms, a little luxury and modernity should be expected. After going back and forth with the manager, she agreed to waive one night of our remaining stay but not both (After spending 300 Eurosport???s in Restaurant). How generous.
The only five star rating in this review is the photographer for the website. I could never see myself staying here ever again as there are numerous hotels in the same price range that offer so much more . Find the exit to this bad renaissance fair.
