About the location
Made up of more than 1,000 islands scattered across the Indian Ocean, the Maldives is the quintessential get-away-from-it-all destination. It's a one-hotel-per-island affair, with properties ranging from luxe hideaways with stylish restaurants and bars, to rustic-chic retreats that draw on traditional Maldivian design.
The islands come with a natural colour scheme of green, white and blue - green for the glossy palms, white for the sugary sands, and blue for the photo-perfect lagoons that surround them. Beneath the waters things are just as spectacular, with colourful coral reefs and exotic sea life just a short swim from the beach. The Maldives is also home to some of the best scuba sites in the world, and hotels can arrange boat trips for keen divers.
Being surrounded by the sea means that fish (tuna in particular) is a key focus in Maldivian cuisine. Coconut is also used liberally - mixed into creamy curry sauces, sprinkled on top of salads and used in rich desserts. You'll also find plenty of dishes inspired by Sri Lankan and Indian cuisine.

My husband and I had a LOT of places to choose from for our honeymoon. We where recommended Centara Grand Maldives and we chose it! We could never Done a better choice! Everything was lovely, the food was amazing (all the a la cart?? restaurants where great, especially the Italian)! The staff was superb, the most friendly and helpful staff we ever encountered. Special thanks to Huhthu and Susil which made our trip so much better :)! They Both made us feel so well treated and they are now friends which we Will look forward to meet again:).
The Spa was probably the best spa i ever been to, and the different treatments are all performed by experts in the field.
I would defintively recommend this fantastic and lovely island where privacy is respected and the views are out of this world.
The beach and the water is like out of a dream!!
My husband and i would love to visit this place again in a near future, and we do recommend couples/honeymooners to do the great choice and pick Centara Grand maldives as Their destination !
Thank you Centara Grand for a magical honeymoon, until we meet again!

It is with a heavy heart (and hugs from staff) that we left one of our new favourite resorts & countries. We have travelled extensively globally and this resort for its stunning beaches and amazing staff makes this one of our favourites.
We stayed for 5 nights in the Centara Grand Maldives in early September 2018 where we got married. If you are looking for any negatives about this resort we can???t help you. If your pillow is too hard simply order a softer one, they have all bases covered. The resort was probably at 1/3 capacity which made it an intimate experience and the weather was perfect. The temperature was 30-31c every day with crystal clear water.
We stayed for 5 nights in an Overwater Pool Villa. This villa gave us access to the Club Lounge. Having this access made the trip even more special. The Club Lounge was a few minutes walk from our villa and the staff were sensational. Senthil, Joi, Cecille and Pragya were always on hand at the club and attended to our every need. Whether it was making surprise cocktails (including a wedding breakfast cocktail game) for us or organising a special dance party for us on our last night it was these people who make all the difference. The Club contains a private pool and gives you access to a more premium beverage list than the rest of the island. We mainly had breakfast here and had the bulk of lunches their as well which had a changed menu every day. Starting the day with Champagne is always a great start to the day. Joi was flower girl for our wedding, Santhiel was our master cocktail maker and can dance up a storm and Pragya serenaded us with a traditional Nepalese song on our last night. All of the staff are well trained and will greet you as you walk around the island. If you are not staying in an Ocean Pool Villa you can pay a supplement to have club access, this is something we highly recommend if you like to be away from the crowds and want a bit of VIP treatment.
From the moment we stepped off the speed boat on our arrival Moe was very helpful and assisted with any request we had including a late checkout on our last day. If you have a broken fridge (which we didn???t) or any issue they will promptly solve it. If you arrive early enough we would suggest the Sea Plane. You may have to wait at Male airport no matter whether you fly domestic or via seaplane, but the sea plane avoids the speedboat as you land directly at the airport.
Including The Club there are 4 restaurant options for dinner in addition to private beach dining. We enjoyed all options including the private beach dinner. You will be requested to book in for dinners so staff and chefs know how much food to prepare, so be aware of this. We visited the Crab race one evening and had a load of fun seeing whose crab would make it out of the circle the fastest. The daily fish feeding at 6pm is also worth a visit as large sharks and stingray come in as they know the schedule.
Unfortunately when we went searching for a whale shark to swim with we were unsuccessful, but then the next day they saw 2 of them. It is hit and miss or could be because they were sleeping in being as it was Sunday. We still were able to snorkel at a reef we would not have been able to visit so it was worth the half day trip. We visited the gym daily which was well equipped with varied machines and cold towels in the fridge. The view is also directly into the ocean with fish and reef sharks swimming around. We snorkelled daily from our room amongst brightly coloured fish and reed sharks. Each day you are given $100 credit for the Cenvaree spa, which you can utilize for treatments such has head and neck massage, head massage or facial. Or you can spend a bit extra for a variety of different treatments.
We got married at the resort and had a beach wedding starting with a parade from the spa to the beach setting. Our ceremony was held on a pristine beach and was attended by the heads of departments and the hotel manager. The package included Bride & Groom Spa Treatments, Hair & Make-up for the bride, photography during the ceremony and then around the island, private beach dinner, wedding night turn down and a private beach breakfast the next morning. A special thanks to Shiva for his amazing photos and Macha for making the hair and makeup a fun experience. Our wedding planner Apple Green ran the whole event to military precision and made our special day very stress free. We came for a relaxed beach wedding and that is what she and the team provided.
If you are visiting the Maldives for the first time it is great to have the Ocean Villa. Our Ocean Pool villa had the most crystal clear water you will ever see with a reef right down the stairs from the deck. You have the choice of swimming in your private pool or heading into the sea. The location of these villas are sunset facing so you get to experience the daily picturesque sunsets. The bathrooms are large with free standing tub and rain head shower. The mini-bar is refreshed daily and simply ask for a wine bottle top-up daily and they will oblige. The view from the toilet is also something to be seen to be believed.
So in review we would not change a thing about our time at Centara Grand Maldives. We are hoping to visit again early next year and see our Centara friends again. We may however stay in a beach pool villa to mix things up and pay for the club lounge supplement. We enjoyed the ease of the all-inclusive as when you are in the Maldives you are on an island. As it was all-inclusive we didn???t have any bill to pay at the end and didn???t have to think about the price of Food, Drinks and activities etc.
