Let me start that you should avoid this hotel if you travel with children other than babies, if you are looking for loud music and late night partying, or if you do not like elderly people. But if on the other hand you are looking for peace, quiet, excelent service , good food and plenty of sunshine this is the place for you.
The building is quite imposing with a peculiar decor that mixes contemporary pure glass and white cubes with some decorative motifs taken form the Art Deco style or even the Rococo. In any case all is done with first rate materials and it is kept spotlessly clean by the army of cleaners, gardeners and engineers working on site. It is conveniently close to the main Maspalomas beach and Dunes, and also to the bus station so you can easily explore most of the island without the need to rent a car. Local supermarkets are close by for essential groceries, should you need something on top of everything you are going to eat in the hotel.
We stayed in a good 4th floor room in the main building with a nice sea view looking into the west so we could enjoy the beautiful sunsets every day. Our room was quite spacious, well furnished with cabinets so there is plenty of space for clothes and other items. Our bathroom was also quite large with an excellent power shower and double basin. Towels were of good quality as the nice and fluffy bathrobes.
Beds were of good qualty, firm but not too much, I had excellent sleep all nights. Linen was very clean and of good quality.
I should also mention the excellent signal quality of the complimentary wifi. t was good not just in the rooms and communal areas, but also in the pools. I could do online phone calls, see videos and do all sorts of online activities without a problem.
The hotel covers quite an extensive land surface so there are many sunbathing areas around the 4 main pools, two of them infinity type pools close to the seashore and for adults only. On top of the main restaurant for buffet breakfast and dining, there are two bars, one close to the seaside ad another next to the theatre where shows are held every night. Two a la carte restaurants are available: Krystal which is a contemporary gourmet restaurant in the main buiolding , and El Español which is close to the sea and the infinity pools. This one is specialised in spanish cuisine. This area is the main restaurant for lunch or snacks .It has excellent sea view during daylight.
Regarding cleanliness I could not be more satisfied with the appearance of common areas, gardens, halls, corridors and rooms. All very clean everytime of the day.
Food is one of the best points of this establishment. The buffet areas are very large and well kept, with clean whitecloths and napkins . The dishes and cups were also very clean, as it was the cutlery. Service was quick and efficient during breakfast and dinner providing drinks so you can focus on the food. I was mazed at the variety, quality and freshness of the food served here in the buffet. All tastes were catered for as they had quite a large selection of very good vegetarian dishes. All sorts of fish , meat pasta, pizzas , salads, soups, cheeses, cured meats, fruits and desserts were available. So it was four us impossible in just one week to make a fair assessment of all that was on offer, but everything that we tried was either good or excellent. Same applies to breakfast. One of the best breakfast buffets I have tried. My only disappointment came with the orange juice, which was a bit too bitter for my taste. Otherwise all very nice. I should mention the excellent coffee served, it was abundant as it was delicious.
The best culinary experiences were in the a la carte restaurants. Both of them served excellent dishes. We repeated in the Krystal restaurant three times as we found the quality of the food and the service excellent. El Español is also excellent with a wide variety of true spanish dishes from different regions of the country. The selection of hot and cold tapas was truly well done. I would advice to take the offer of pairing the food with different wines . The wines were of outstanding quality, particularly the Ribera del Duero Reds and the Albariño whites. The local canarian wines are also very decent and can be quite a discovery.
We decided to eat our lunch in the ocean´s view restaurant . The quality of the food and the service were as usual excellent. I would reccomend the salad buffet as it is basically a mini buffet of all sort of fresh ingredients so you can have a varied experience every time.
The pool areas have very comfortable sundecks and towels are readily available. As I was looking forward to enjoy peace and silence , the lack of common activities like gympool and the like were a blessing. No ambience music of any kind, so just the waves nearby. Perfect for reading, listening to music or just relaxing and having a nap. There was service should you fancy a coffee, somehing to eat or a nice G&T on the pool. All pools were slighly climatised as this was december and night temperatures could be fresh. They were also very clean and well kept. Water was salty so no chlorine odours.
So in summary a very relaxing experience. We found what we were looking for: peace, silence, sunshine, good food and wine and relaxation. In essence a haven of epicurean bliss.
Although everybody was helpful and keen to make your life easy, I must mention some names. Consuelo was our Maitre d´several nights and she was an excellent professional. Carlos the chef at Krystal came to meet us on the table so we could congratulate him and the team for the excellent meals we had there. Our main maid Esperanza kept everything vey clean and tidy, and did some nice figures with our towels, which is always very nice.
I am really looking forward to repeat the experience next year, Fate permitting.
