Greece, there's more to the mainland than you might imagine

If the Greek Ionian Sea is the answer, what is the hotel?

Legend has it that the Ionian Sea is named after Lo, the beautiful daughter of a sea nymph, who was loved by the greatest of the gods, Zeus. Known for its stunning coastline of rocky inlets, people love to swim, sail, and dive in the deep aquamarine waters.

Cradled here is the Greek island of Corfu. And on the western edge of mainland Greece, at the edge of the same sea, lies the beguiling region of Parga. Sun-drenched and mystical, in many ways, both destinations are the answer to your holiday dreams.

But then, the big question arises. Where shall we stay?

Where should I stay in Peloponnese?

Planning a holiday to Greece…then you have come to the right place. The entire peninsula of the Peloponnese has made a herculean effort to safeguard its natural beauty in recent years. Home to Greece's first UNESCO World Heritage site, there are plenty of areas to choose from.

But if we were to pick one where everyone would be happy, we'd have to go with Costa Navarino. The resort is in Messenia, southwest Peloponnese, and has one of the most pristine coasts in the Mediterranean. Easily accessible, it is just a 40-minute journey from Kalamata airport.

A sprawling luxury complex, there are over 700 rooms split across two different hotels, The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, and The Westin. Many of their facilities are shared, and guests are urged to visit both, making full use of the complementary golf-buggy service.

So, The Romanos or The Westin?

Let us begin by exploring The Westin. It comes as no surprise that the resort was awarded the number 2 spot in the Conde Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards 2021: Top 10 Resorts in Greece.

It provides children with a wide range of enjoyable activities to pick from. Infants and toddlers will appreciate sensory playgrounds while ages 4 to 12 have access to a variety of fun and creative activities. And that's just for starters. There's also a youth hub – Division 16 - with exciting activities like an escape room, VR gaming, bowling and karaoke, an impressive waterpark, the first European Mouratoglou Tennis Centre with 16 tennis courts of all types, various water sport options including a Diving Centre, an indoor sports hall, an entertainment centre, and – of course – indoor and outdoor pools. There is also a wide range of cuisine on offer in the form of several restaurants serving up a real treat of local and international dishes.

“The whole resort is excellent. It is spacious and has so much to explore and, even when busy, has that wonderful feeling of not being. The dining options are excellent – we ate in 9 different places over 9 nights and all of it was excellent. If you enjoy variety and high-quality dining, then you are truly spoilt for choice!” (Paul Milford)
The accommodation is completely family-friendly while remaining elegant, with many rooms and suites featuring private pools. The landscaping and pools are beautiful and safe, so parents can relax with a drink and enjoy the breath-taking views.

“We travelled with my 4 year-old who loved it – it is wonderful for kids. She tried the kids club (which was excellent) and loved the kids pool and other facilities. On top of that the big expansive beach provides plenty of room to explore and have fun! And, after all that, there was nothing better than a quick rest in a poolside cabana, before sending a WhatsApp to the concierge to send a buggy to courier you back to your room!” (Paul Milford)
A superb choice for those who need to cater for lots of different ages, but for those who seek pure indulgence, then award-winning The Romanos will not disappoint. The resort's rooms and suites are set on a private hillside with incredible views over the blue of the Ionian Sea.

One of the finest resorts in Greece, the elegantly designed rooms, suites and villas are set in a magnificent landscape of olive groves, trees, and flora. The award-winning buildings exude elegance and lavishness, with uninterrupted views of crystal-clear waters or the immaculately sculpted green golf course. Be sure to choose a suite with an infinity pool for the ultimate in extravagance. And inside, you'll experience the pinnacle of opulent living space, with access to an exclusive array of extraordinary services and amenities.

When booking a suite or villa, opt for your Romanos Ionian Exclusive Butler – a dedicated destination specialist whose job is to assist you in any way. Be that unpacking or packing your suitcase or helping you discover the local jewels for a truly memorable experience.

Where the two resorts meet is the Agora village square. An epicentre of restaurants, bars, and shops. In the evening, you'll notice an ambient hum as people select from a variety of local and foreign cuisines and entertainment options.

What are The Romanos and The Westin Spa and Golf facilities like?

Both hotels have access to the world-renowned Anazoe Spa, which offers signature treatments that blend traditional rituals with modern therapeutic techniques. Using natural ingredients from the region and methods inspired by Hippocrates, the father of medicine, who believed in the healing benefits of olive oil, you are bound to feel both relaxed and rejuvenated.

There are more than 90 treatments to choose from accompanied by soothing music so why not indulge yourself in the state-of-the-art spa facilities?

Golf is another popular pastime in Costa Navarino. It is home to four 18-hole courses, The Dunes, The Bay, and The International Olympic Academy Golf Course which offer dazzling sea views, and The Hills which has stunning views of the rugged mountains. The Dunes Course, Greece's first signature golf course, was inaugurated in May 2010 in collaboration with European Golf Design and former two-time US Master Champion and Ryder Cup Captain Bernhard Langer. Naturally, if you require it, the latest equipment and carts can be rented, along with practice facilities to get you warmed up for your round.

Costa Navarino offers its guests four signature golf courses to enjoy further enhancing its status as one of Europe’s unrivalled golf destinations – is it time to tee up?

Costa Navarino, in summary

The resort works on so many levels – particularly for families of all different ages. Young children can be looked after in the clubs and enjoy the pools and play areas; older children have their own meeting point at Division 16 and can get involved in all the on-site sports. Not forgetting, Wi-Fi is available everywhere, so devices will always be connected.

Similarly, if you're a couple looking for a romantic break, The Romanos' suites are outstanding, offering plenty of possibilities for indulgence and stunning views.

Although, the one thing you'll probably appreciate most about Costa Navarino is the amount of space. All the amenities are conveniently placed. Even when the hotels are fully booked, it still feels extremely roomy. That is ensured by clever design elements such as double-height ceilings and extra-wide staircases and doorways. So, even during high season, you won't have to fight for a lounger here.
