Emerald green hills lead down to the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, making Pissouri holidays ideal for a romantic escape in a tranquil area of Cyprus. The pretty town is split into two areas and is home to some excellent cuisine using fresh local seafood and produce from the surrounding farmlands. Foodies will love the many family run tavernas dotted throughout the town, with traditional Cypriot cuisine including local wines and moussaka dishes.

Those wanting to indulge in some retail therapy can visit the many souvenir shops in Pissouri, as well as picking up unique items in the town’s boutiques. Couples will enjoy the quiet romance of Pissouri, while families can try the water sports on the Blue Flag beach, as well as horse riding, mountain biking and hiking through the surrounding hills. Head back into town for a fishing village feel, with Pissouri having escaped the waves of tourists and retained much of its original charm.

When to go

Cyprus weather resembles Greek island-style summers that warm up quickly, with temperatures sticking in the low 20s around April and May. In the middle of summer, highs are well into the 30s, and you can still get away with great beach weather (in the slightly more comfortable 20s) around September and October, the perfect time to visit. Cyprus doesn’t get particularly cold; things hover in the late teens throughout winter, with the odd rain shower.

Visa Information

Visas are not required for UK citizens travelling to Cyprus.

Tipping

Most restaurants and hotel bills will include a 10% tip, so you don’t have to tip wait staff or bar staff. Even still, extra tips are always appreciated, especially if you received good service. Taxi drivers appreciate a tip; aim for about 10% of the fare.

Introduction to languages

The official languages of Cyprus are Turkish and Greek. English is widely spoken too, so getting by is easy.
