CHRISTMAS IN TENERIFE

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and is one of the hottest in December with temperatures reaching around 24 degrees Celsius. Head to Santa Cruz, the islands capital, and enjoy a night under the starts enjoying an open-air Christmas concert. Did you know that Tenerife is a Designated Starlight Destination thanks to its wonderful stargazing opportunities? The best beach for Christmas in Tenerife has to be Las Teresitas – you’ll find bars serving tropical Christmas inspired cocktails, so you can sit back and relax.

CHRISTMAS IN LANZAROTE

The island of eternal spring, Lanzarote is a fantastic choice for Christmas. Winter sun? Tick! Unique landscapes? Tick! Christmas cheer? Tick! Head to Lanzarote and enjoy Navidad Isleña, a plethora of traditional music activities running from the start of December to early January all around the island. For a special experience, make your way to Jameos del Agua and feast on a delicious Christmas meal inside a volcanic tube.

CHRISTMAS IN LA GOMERA

La Gomera may be smaller in size, but this mighty little gem loves Christmas with festivities starting in November and running all the way through to January. There are a number of Christmas cooking workshops for you to get involved with where you will learn how to make torta de vilana (traditional vilana cake). Sing along with the Villancicos de Navidad (Christmas carols) in the centre of the capital, San Sebastián and spread that Christmas cheer.

CHRISTMAS IN GRAN CANARIA

The most cosmopolitan of the islands, Gran Canaria showcases a number of winter sun activities for Christmas. Enjoy an underwater adventure when snorkelling on Las Caletas beach. The vibrant capital of Las Palmas is also worth a visit. One thing not to be missed is the creative nativity scene on Las Canteras beach which has been created out of sand.

CHRISTMAS IN FUERTEVENTURA

The beautiful island of Fuerteventura is the perfect place to spend Christmas. Pay a visit to Corralejo with its Christmas market with lots of traditional food and gifts on display. Be sure to try queso con almendras (cheese with almonds), a typical Christmas sweet. For a different experience, be sure to witness the most breathtaking meteor shower, the Geminids, lighting up the night sky.

WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE IN THE CANARY ISLANDS?

The weather in the Canary Islands is warm so it is perfect for catching some winter sun. Temperatures range from around 19˚C to 26˚C in December so you can escape the cold winter back home. Bring a light cardigan or jacket for the evening as it can get a bit cooler.
