About the location
St. John’s, Antigua's colourful capital, is perched on the northern coast of the island, covering four square miles of markets, restaurants and candy-coloured buildings. Architectural styles jostle for dominance here – the city skyline is a mosaic of bright Caribbean buildings punctuated by its most important monument, the neo-baroque St. John’s Cathedral. Everywhere you turn, St. John’s is mixing vibrant heritage with an upmarket crowd, from Redcliffe Quay’s swanky shops and restaurants to the Saturday morning fruit markets. The city is fantastic for shopping (it’s big on duty-free luxury goods), and the elegant bars and restaurants contribute to an upbeat vibe after dark.
