Portugal is full of history, offering visitors a lot as a holiday destination. From cosmopolitan towns and quiet historical villages to luxury spa breaks at the sea, Portugal has it all with magnificent luxury holidays.

Successful swings in the Algarve

The Algarve offers pristine golfing adventures with over 40 courses. The world-renowned San Lorenzo offers 18 holes in a figure of eight with some of the best conditions for golf enthusiasts. If you travel to Vilamoura, the Pinhal Golf Course awaits with incredible panoramic views of the surrounding ocean and lush rolling hills of umbrella pines. If you’re looking for an eco-friendly course, Espiche Golf is incredibly eco-conscious, and the award-winning clubhouse serves some of the best organic food in the region.

Inland Explorations

Travel inland to explore some of the magnificent adventures the Algarve offers. Along the border, the Serra de Monchique mountains meet with the Alentejo region just next door. A visit to Monchique town is a must for history lovers. The cobbled streets and the Moorish castle at Silves offer a historical journey through time, while a dip in the highly alkaline waters of Caldas de Monchique will have you feeling fresh and rejuvenated. The surrounding chestnut forests are truly magical in the spring, offering unparalleled views of the mountains. This is the perfect time to get your hiking shoes and go for a walk to breathe in the fresh air.

Spend a day in legendary Lisbon

As the capital city of Portugal, Lisbon has a lot to offer. From history explorations to exquisite local cuisines, Lisbon invites you to experience authentic Portugal. Take a walk on the backstreets of the old city quarters before taking the iconic yellow tram up the historic cobbled streets. Dotted along the Bairro Alto neighbourhood, you’re in for a Portuguese feast with the up-and-coming restaurants serving iconic local dishes. The chic wine bars are also a must, serving some of the best the Portuguese wine regions have to offer. Coupled with the stunning Baroque churches and historic fado houses, Lisbon is a true cultural adventure.

Visit picturesque Camara de Lobos

As one of Winston Churchill’s favourite places to paint, you know Camara de Lobos has something special. This little fishing village in Madeira is the perfect place to spend an afternoon taking in the picturesque sites. The bay filled with terracotta-topped houses and fishing boats is as pretty as a picture. A walk along the promenade will bring you to a small pebble beach, Praia do Vigario. Along the way, stop off at one of the traditional oceanside cafes with Madeiran specialities, including poncha, a punch made with sugarcane spirit, honey, and lemon juice. It’s the perfect refreshment on a hot day.

Explore Nun's Valley

Deep in the mountains of central Madeira is the small village of Nun’s Valley. It was founded in the 16th Century by nuns of the Santa Clara convent attempting to escape invading pirates. Today the tiny village is most well-known for its incredible chestnuts, which are used to make a variety of local delicacies, including liqueurs. To truly appreciate Nun’s Valley, go over to the Miradouro do Paredão. From here, you have panoramic views of Funchal and Nun’s Valley. Making your way up the winding mountain road is challenging, so it’s best to hire a local guide to drive you up.
