White Rocks

A nice hotel with beautiful surroundings but do not stay if you have mobility issues as its up and down slopes and steps everywhere around the hotel grounds and into the hotel, whether that's too and from your bungalow, the pool, the beach or the carpark to the front entrance. We stayed here once before, 13 years ago but as we stayed in the main hotel then, we never had to walk further than the pool. This time with a bungalow it was hard work! We were given a bungalow the furthest away from everything and up a very steep slope which was hard work in 35c heat. We asked to move but we were told that the hotel was full. The bungalow was nice enough and looked modern but had some issues such as an ant infestation that kept crawling over anything on the sideboard above the clothes drawers and once night we left a glass on the side that had been used for soft drink and in the morning it was teeming with ants. The water from the shower came under the door into he bathroom, the light comes in through the bathroom window into the bedroom and wakes you up and there was a light that lit the steps up that was handy to have on a night to light the way to the bathroom and this stopped working after a couple of days. We also had to ask for toilet rolls several times as spares were not provided and we kept getting only 2 towels when there was 3 of us staying in the room. The staff were all friendly, especially the pool bar and bar staff and the restaurant staff. The food was quite repetitive with pork and lumps of beef in sauce featuring most nights and perch fish at least 3-4 times in a week. Some strange things like chicken stuff with olives in curry sauce with cheese sauce on the top that no one was eating, and whilst I know the hotel has to cater for different European nationalities, when in Greece you want to try some greek food. Little choice as it's a small restaurant, we are not fussy eaters but if you were then you would struggle. When we visited 13 years ago they served soup as a starter to the table when you sat down and I remember eating Kefalonian meat pie and also having wild rabbit - delicious. So the food is not as good as it was back then. Other than Gyros one night and some Greek salad, there was no kleftiko, moussaka or red snapper, sword fish etc, all the things that you might expect. There's also nothing cooked to order, so no steaks on the evening or omelettes cooked to order which you come to expect from hotels that say they are 5 star. On that subject, everywhere rates it as a 4 star hotel but the hotel rates itself as 5 star as you get charged for 5 star price for the Greek tourist tax that you pay when you leave so for 1 room for 1 week its 70 euro that you have to pay on check out! One annoyance was waiting so long for someone to take your drink order after sitting down in the restaurant and having to find a member of staff to ask them if we could order drinks but it had to be the person who's job it was and not someone who was tasked with clearing tables and then often there was a long wait for the drinks and several times they forgot the bottle of wine that we would order at dinner. Also the pool area opens at 9am in the morning, but be prepared to join a queue of people who are sprinting for sunbeds the moment that it opens! We went down the first day at 9.30am after breakfast and there wasn't one sunbed anywhere and I mean anywhere - not by the pool or on the deck level on the opposite side of the pool or on the beach and there were just towels on empty sunbeams where people had put them down and then gone for breakfast. There were also several large groups holidaying together were they would commandeer 10 or sunbeds and some were left empty until their friends decided to join them. And because the hotel provides clean beach towels in the rooms they have nothing to fear if they leave them out and someone moves them. Also the hand soap in the mens poolside toilets was empty all week and was never filled which wasn't good. The other thing which I know is normal for Greece is the stray cats, they are everywhere around the hotel and we witnesses several people feeding them which is obviously why they hang around hotels, but they can be vicious and we had one outside our bungalow hissing at us as we walked past which terrified our young daughter and whilst the locals and staff see it as normal, obviously we are not used to this in the UK and you hear stories of people being scratched or bitten by them and contracting rabies - but people still feed them meat and fish from the balcony at dinner time! We moved away from people doing this as it's not hygienic or sensible but staff didn't seem to be bothered about telling people to stop. I have been going to Kefalonia for 25 years and the area around the hotel is lovely and we know the roads and places to visit across the island etc so my review is purely based on the hotel.

Our stay at White Rocks Hotel was nothing short of perfect. We were greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. The staff consistently went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed ??? always helpful, polite, and eager to make our experience unforgettable. We stayed in two of the modern bungalows with our children, and they were comfortable, stylish, and spotlessly cleaned every single day. The food was outstanding. Every meal was delicious, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared. We never had a bad meal the entire stay. One of the things we loved most was the relaxing atmosphere. There was never any stress about finding sunbeds, and the views from the hotel were simply breathtaking. A special mention must go to Vassilias, who was incredibly charming, polite, and attentive throughout our stay. His kindness and dedication played a big part in making our holiday so memorable.The hotel is set on a hill, so expect a bit of walking ??? but with all the amazing food you???ll be enjoying, it???s a great way to balance things out! I recommend White Rocks Hotel. A beautiful place and wonderful people, Can???t wait to return!

Where do we start with the Whiterocks Hotel. We have been going to Whiterocks Hotel for 9 years and we can???t wait for 2026 to return to this outstanding hotel.
