Set in the highlands of India, this luxurious hotel is set out like a traditional spice village and home to fertile gardens and a fascinating history. Ecological features lie at the heart of the hotel, with old wood reused to create new furniture pieces, solar powering 75% of the energy use, compost bins and locally grown ingredients served in the restaurants. 

Locally sourced herbal teas, spices and fresh vegetables are all used to create spectacular Indian and international dishes. The bar offers an extensive menu of wines, spirits, champagne and more. Couples can enjoy candlelit dining by the fire, and there is also a spa, tennis courts and a swimming pool. If you prefer to explore you’ll find spectacular wildlife in the surrounding area, as well as villages, farms and more.

Dine by the light of the fire, the stars and the candles as the chef prepares a daily changing menu of his recommended dishes in this al fresco restaurant. An open kitchen area allows you to see the chef at work.

Tamarind


Rustic interiors and a thatched al fresco terrace offer the ideal setting to enjoy a range of both international and Indian dishes. The fresh spices and produce are all grown in the local area. 

Woodhouse Bar


Named after the forest ranger, and former owner of the Spice Village, A.W. Woods, enjoy the old photographs, Indian wooden finishes and rich fabrics as you indulge in wine, spirits and mocktails.

About the location
Located in Periyar, in the picturesque hills of Thekkady, the Spice Village offers an authentic, rustic experience and is the perfect hotel for explorers. Periyar National Park is in the surrounding area and contains fascinating flora and fauna, including elephants, monkeys and tigers. There are also 320 species of bird, 45 reptile and 28 species of fish in the park, with walking tours, cycling tours and treks offered by the hotel. 

Venture through the forests and hills with expert naturalists and learn about the history and culture of the area. Visit farms and villages, as well as some of the local plantations in this fertile region. Speak to local farmers and learn about the area’s residents and way of life.
