Belmond Hotel Caruso

Neopolitan Riviera, Ravello

Belmond Hotel Caruso is something of an icon on the Amalfi Coast. An 11th-century palazzo, it was built by Rome's illustrious D'Afflitto family and has hosted its fair share of famous guests over the years. When it comes to the location, the hotel is tough to beat. It's set on a clifftop in the postcard town of Ravello, a dizzying 1,000 feet above sea level. The widescreen views are best enjoyed from the al fresco terrace of Belevedere restaurant or from the hotel’s star attraction - its huge, infinity-edge pool. If you fancy heading down to sea level, there's a complimentary shuttle bus into the gelato-coloured towns of Amalfi and Positano, as well as a free daily boat tour around the exquisite Bay of Naples.

Hotel child prices apply to ages 2-12 years.

The hotel has 50 rooms.

About the Location
The cliffside town of Ravello rests above the Amalfi Coast, between Amalfi and Maiori. Panoramic gardens are its claim to fame: mansions like Villa Rufolo set their fruit orchards and manicured flower beds on terraces that step steeply down towards the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The wealthy Rufolo family also helped fund the Ravello Cathedral on Piazza Duomo. This pale-stone church pairs boxy Romanesque architecture with a Byzantine bell tower dedicated to Saint Pantaleon.

Streets filled with art galleries, wineries, restaurants and pottery shops unravel from the main square. It’s this creative streak that once attracted the bohemian Bloomsbury Group, including Virginia Woolf and E. M. Forster.

The rest of the Amalfi Coast is within easy day-tripping distance of Ravello. Easterly next door neighbours include Minori and the sandy beaches at Maori, while Amalfi is just a 20-minute drive south-west.
