Home to one of the longest beaches in Mauritius
Flic en Flac settles between the beach and sugarcane fields in the west of Mauritius, just a 45-minute drive south of the capital city, Port Louis.
It’s one of the liveliest spots in Mauritius. That’s thanks to the beach – a long stretch of powder-fine sand with a fringe of coconut palms and green hill bookends. The palm trees shade a parade of hotels and sunset-facing restaurants.
Meanwhile, the glass-clear water is a magnet for kayakers and snorkellers. Scuba divers also head here - there’s a newbie-friendly barrier reef just offshore, plus 19th-century shipwrecks, cathedral-like caves and volcanic rock formations for those who fancy a trickier dive. Indian Ocean regulars like dolphins, rays and whales mooch around these waters, too.
The Tamarina Golf Club sits at the southern end of Flic en Flac. It’s an 18-hole championship course with long-range views over Rempart Mountain and sweeping Tamarin Bay.

Mauritius is a year-round destination, with summer and winter months offering something different. The summer months, from October through to April, are perfect for beach lovers - days are long and temperatures are in the high 20s. There is the odd chance of a cyclone in the south of the island, though. The winter months (during the UK summer) are a little cooler, in the early 20s, so are ideal for hiking and exploring. If you’re planning on diving, the summer months are your best bet – the waters are warmer and (usually) calmer, and there’s more sea life around.
Visas are not required for Mauritius. You will receive a stamp in your passport valid for 60 days.
