Sovereign Spotlight: Mauritius

At Sovereign Luxury Travel we have over 50 years’ experience and over this time we have discovered a number of destinations that have lots to offer. We have travelled the world to bring you our extensive knowledge and secret treasures.

Without further ado, introducing the first destination in our Sovereign Spotlight series…MAURITIUS!
Mauritius is a beautiful island with turquoise lagoons and pristine white sands, tropical jungles and impressive mountain backdrops. With plenty to do on this vibrant island, we’ve picked out a few of our favourites below.

Chamarel

One of the most breathtaking areas of nature in Mauritius, Chamarel, the land of seven colours, is a wonder not to be missed. A geological curiosity, Chamarel is made of multicoloured volcanic ashes from decomposed basaltic lava. The colours have emerged from the chemicals in the soil to create an area of natural beauty. There is also a lovely waterfall standing at 83 metres high.

Underwater Waterfall

Speaking of waterfalls, did you know that Mauritius is home to an underwater waterfall? This phenomenon amazes travellers all around the world. It isn’t a real waterfall, but rather an illusion, so is perfectly safe to swim and surf in. The water is crystal clear, so it is easy to see through it, making it even more incredible.

Tea Route

The Tea Route is famous in Mauritius where you can enjoy the aromas of tea leaves and learn the tricks of the trade. Pay a visit to Bois Cheri Tea Factory, the biggest producer on the island. Near to Curepipe, you can visit a colonial mansion and a floral park filled with lots of trees and flowers. The full visit lasts between 5 and 7 hours so makes for a great day trip.

In the northwest of Mauritius, the Botanical Garden of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam can be found. An area of 37 hectares, it allows visitors to be transported into a world of pleasant scents with over 650 species of plants stretching from all four corners of the world. Open daily, it is a feast for the senses.

Le Morne Brabant

UNESCO World Heritage Site, Le More Brabant stands proud at 556 metres high and is a popular tourist spot. Found on the southwest of the island, it represents the fight against slavery as in the past it was a sanctuary for slaves. Take a hike to the top of the mountain and enjoy the postcard perfect views of the island and sea.
