About the location
Set on Barbados' south coast, St Lawrence Gap probably ticks off every box on your Caribbean retreat wishlist. By day, relax on white-sand beaches and cool off with a spot of snorkelling (this area is packed with tropical fish), and when the sun goes down, embrace your inner Bajan with a night on the town. Make a beeline for The Gap (as hip as its nickname), a road lined with restaurants, rum shacks and clubs. Tuck into a fresh fish supper, before ordering a rum punch or two and soaking up the atmosphere. For those who like to show off their moves, the nightclubs in the area play a variety of music genres, from reggae to dance. You’re only 10 minutes’ drive from Bridgetown, too, so exploring the island’s historic capital is nice and easy.

This was our first trip to Barbados and after much research, we decided to stay at Ocean Two and I don't think we could have made a better decision! Firstly I need to point out I am fussy, but I could not find a single fault throughout our 4 day stay. The check in process was seamless with us being offered refreshing cold flannels and a drink brought over from the bar which after an 11 hour flight was much appreciated! We had booked to stay in a one bedroom ocean view suite, the suite we were allocated was beautiful but was on the ground floor and I was hoping for a higher floor to fully take in the magnificent views. After a quick chat with reception they advised they had no others available for that night (this was now around 7pm) but would come back to us the next day. True to their word, the following morning after we had returned from breakfast, reception telephoned through and we had been re-allocated to a suite on the 4th floor. I could write chapter and verse about how wonderful our stay was, the suites are fantastic, huge comfy bed, the biggest shower, spacious living area and kept wonderfully clean by the housekeeping staff. With regards to the hotel, the location was fantastic, the staff were all wonderful and could not do enough for you, as many others have commented the sun loungers were the comfiest ever - we enjoyed ourselves so much at the hotel, other than a walk down the Gap one afternoon we never left! Highlight for us was the Saturday night beach BBQ - fantastic experience with the most delicious food, a brilliant way to round off our stay! The checkout process was as seamless as checking in, and although, as the hotel was fully booked we could not have a later check out (our flight home was 9pm), we were offered the opportunity to use the shower facilities in the hotel gym which was very much appreciated. All in all a most wonderful holiday and we will definitely be back - hopefully sooner rather than later!

My husband and I traveled with another couple to run the Barbados Marathon on Dec 3rd (a great experience). We stayed at the resort for 9 nights. Overall it was a great experience and epic holiday. The service was excellent and the staff really did their best to be friendly and helpful. While we did experience a few minor problems, the staff made up for everything. Tourism is the main industry in Barbados and the people are top-notch in the hospitality department.
The open air lobby/bar area is really pretty and upscale. We enjoyed sipping coffee in the mornings in the comfy chairs looking out at the beach area and ocean. The beach and pool area are also nicely done and especially attractive in the evenings with the colored lights. I was surprised by the bigger waves and rough surf but that made our surfing lesson go well. But I would have preferred calmer waters for swimming.
The rooms were beautiful with marble-like floors and a fully equipped kitchen. Granite counter tops and a modern kitchen was very appreciated. We cooked most of our meals and had just about everything we needed. There is even a cooler for wine which was a nice touch. The bathroom was spacious with two sinks and a large modern shower. I loved the big square shower head in the middle that could be angled in both directions.
The king bed was comfy and there was ample closet space and drawers. You could also walk out to the balcony from the bedroom and see the ocean.
We were in a garden room with a small view of the ocean. The only problem was that it was a noisy corner of the building. Service trucks with linens were constantly in and out of the driveway under our room. Also there was a loud jazz club close by and we could hear the music and singing in our room. This was not ideal the nights before the marathon. And at around 3:30 to 4am there was a garbage/recycling truck picking up bottles every morning. There was a house next door below our window where the guests were having a large noisy party one night. And because there are no carpets, noise from above residents can be easily heard. After the marathon I tried to get a nap in the afternoon, but I think work was being done on the AC in another unit and I kept hearing lots of noise. The recommendation we have is to purchase some box fans which provide excellent white noise. A box fan would have drowned out most of the noise mentioned. If staying here again I would ask to be on the other side of the building if you are a light sleeper. Our friends weren't as disturbed by the noise as us but they are better sleepers than us.
One other strange thing that happened was that we were supposed to move to another room after 7 nights of our 9 night stay. That should never happen as it's a huge inconvenience. We would have had to move a ton of food from our fridge and be "homeless" for 3 hours. Not to mention the time lost at the beach packing and unpacking. Luckily the wonderful reservation staff worked their magic and figured out a way for us to stay in our room (Even with the outside noise I didn't want to deal with a move). My recommendation to the hotel would be: do not book people where they will ever have to move rooms during their stay. I'm giving 5 stars mostly because we were so happy we didn't have to change rooms. (4 stars was what I would have given if we had to deal with moving to another room)
A lot of reviewers complained about the locals selling stuff on the beach. I did buy a few necklaces from a nice man named Tony, mostly because I'm a super nice person with a big heart. But I probably would have been more comfortable with less people trying to sell me stuff when I'm trying to relax and unwind.
Overall it's a really lovely upscale smaller resort. The friendly staff do a super job. The rooms are very nice. It's not perfect but there are so many positive aspects that make up for any minor problems.
