About the location
Stealing a prime spot on Menorca’s south-west tip, Cala'n Bosch serves up luxury waterfront hotels along a pretty-as-a-postcard beach. It’s a fabulous sweep of sand dipping into Photoshop-blue waters, with sheltered swimming spots and plenty of handy facilities for a day by the sea. A second beach, Son Xoriguer, sits next door on the other side of a headland. This one’s a popular watersports zone, with a top diving school where you can explore Menorca’s glass-clear waters. Life in Cala’n Bosch is focused around its picturesque marina, home to the resort’s cluster of bars, cafes and seafood restaurants. It’s the best place to linger after dark, when a low-key nightlife scene kicks into gear and a number of craft stalls spring up, filled with souvenirs and Menorcan specialties.

Having stayed in numerous 5 star hotels around the world I rate this as among the very best. It's superbly managed and the staff are some of the most helpful and courteous I've come across. Nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant (which in my opinion should warrant a Michelin star) provided 4 excellent courses in the evening for 27.50 Euros. Dishes were delicious and superbly presented and if you wanted something not on the menu the kitchen would create one to your liking. Breakfasts were incredible and again some of the best I've encountered in any hotel with some food cooked to order. Being an all adult hotel meant no noisy kids or pool games etc. and in the evenings an excellent variety of truly professional musicians (including on one night a pair of absolutely brilliant opera singers) played in the bar area from around 21.00h to 22.30h. Those few who wanted to retire early (most stayed to listen) were ensured a good nights sleep. The hotel also provides a courtesy return bus into Ciutadella once a day, which is the old city of Minorca and well worth a visit. To be fair the bathrooms could do with a revamp but other than that superb.
I have only one negative, and please be assured this is nothing at all to do with the hotel which I maintain is absolutely superb. I apologise if this sounds snobbish but the surrounding area, which is not large and includes the port is far more "kiss-me-quick" than I expected and would have liked, catering for a couple of other family hotels and rentals in the area. The very few shops are all about 'buckets and spades' and the restaurants around the centre of attraction the port (and there really aren't many others) are way too touristy for my liking. You know the sort of thing, pictures of the food and staff calling you in as you wander around. The whole area is built entirely on tourism which is fair enough but a little less tackily obvious would have been nice. We were told there are only 10 permanent residents which probably says a lot. The area is apparently 'dead' come mid October.
Still, please don't let this put you off having an excellent holiday in one of the best hotels you'll find anywhere for the money.
