An Italian Summer

‘The name of Italy has magic in its very syllables.’ We’d be inclined to agree with this declaration by the 19th century English novelist Mary Shelley. From the Mediterranean sunshine to mouth-watering authentic gelato, you'll find you’ve got all you desire. Join us in Italy this summer for a dalliance of romantic sparkling lakes, hidden beach coves, and a feast for all the senses.

LAKE COMO

Dive into the heart-stirring beauty of Lake Como, which is the most glamorous of Italy's lakes. A popular leisure retreat since Roman times, several of today’s A-listers have holiday homes here - George Clooney and Richard Branson among them.

Take the ferry that criss-crosses this sparkling lake backed by dramatic snow-capped mountains to discover picturesque, suave villages that are teeming with luxury boutiques. Venture into the palatial waterfront gardens of Villa Carlotta and Villa Melzi or go sailing and kayaking.

Float away to the five-star Grand Hotel Victoria, located right on the sparkling shores just moments from the historic centre of quaint Menaggio. This elegant property was completely renovated in 2019 and boasts a gorgeous terrace restaurant for idyllic lake views, a spacious spa, and the most beautifully appointed contemporary rooms and suites that also honour the past.

SORRENTO

Bubble up with joy in the Neapolitan Riviera, where you can gaze across the Bay of Naples to the shimmering silhouette of Mount Vesuvius and unfurl a world of history. Sorrento allows you to blend pure relaxation with day trips, perhaps stopping off at a traditional pizzeria, or venturing into winding streets of cliffside villages. You’re also close enough to explore the ancient archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Find your perfect base at the four-star Hilton Sorrento Palace, home to a spacious sun deck under the shade of citrus trees, as well as six incredible connected outdoor swimming pools, and large family rooms with a view. If you feel like venturing out, you’re just a 10-minute amble to the centre of Sorrento.

LAKE MAGGIORE

Dream away by Lake Maggiore, the second largest lake in Italy, which glitters among the natural scenery of the Southern Alps and boasts palazzo-topped islands. The shores are peppered with colourful fishing villages, where you’ll find cobbled streets sheltering quaint trattorie that serve up delicious lake fish and wine from the surrounding vineyards. What’s more, Lake Maggiore is just an hour away from Italy’s fashion capital, Milan.

Soothe your soul for the summer at the exclusive five-star Grand Hotel De Iles Borromees. In a magical location just a few minutes’ walk from Stresa, this historic late 19th century hotel has hosted esteemed guests like Ernest Hemingway and Clark Gable in time gone by. Today it remains unassumingly lavish, with its Belle Époque interiors, first-class amenities, and enchanting views.

NORTH SARDINIA

Get a touch of glitz in Sardinia, one of Italy's breathtaking islands. North Sardinia is suffused with untouched natural beauty, from its forests and lakes to its rugged coastline, but there’s also a distinctly decadent side to this region. In Porto Cervo, a resort town in the heart of glittering Costa Smeralda, the harbour is lined with luxury yachts and it's not uncommon to rub shoulders with celebrities here. You can also explore the town's many fabulous contemporary museums and haute cuisine restaurants.

Dip into the five-star Colonna Resort, which feels typically Mediterranean surrounded by acres of green gardens. Welcoming both couples and families, this calming resort has its own private and equipped white sandy beach, and seven swimming pools to cool down in.
